Tree tomato scientifically known as Solanum betaceum and commonly known as tamarillo is native to Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile and Bolivia. Our tomarillo is imported from the country of Ecuador. Tree tomato has an egg-like shape and their color can vary from yellow and orange to red and deep purple. The flesh has a firm texture and contains larger seeds than a common tomato. The flavor is bold and complex, similar to a ripe tomato with hints of tanginess. The skin of the fruit is bitter and is not commonly eaten raw.
Tree tomatoes are rich in vitamins, minerals, iron and potassium. The fruit also contains anthocyanin and flavonoids which help to protect the skin from oxidative stress and aids in anti- aging.
Fun fact: In Ecuador, the tree tomato is blended with chili peppers to make a hot sauce.

Once the fruit has arrived, in the case that there are any damages to the fruit or the fruit is inedible, please notify us within 24 hours via email with a picture of the fruit firstname.lastname@example.org. Due to perishability of tropical fruit we are not able to refund after the 24 hour period.

Tropical Fruit ripens best in warm temperatures. If you have received fruit that has not ripened and you wish to speed up the ripening process, we recommend to either put your fruit in paper bags or wrapped in a kitchen towel and placed in a dry, warm area. Alternatively, you may also place your fruit outside in the sun (in an area mindful of bugs) which will also speed up the ripening process.
